What are Degree Apprenticeships?
Offering an alternative route to traditional University study, Degree Apprenticeships (DAs) were launched by the Government to help businesses attract the brightest young talent or boost the skills of their current workforce. DAs give apprentices the opportunity to earn money while learning and gaining an industry-leading qualification.
DAs are a partnership between the University of Plymouth, the apprentice and employer with two programmes on offer: BSc (Hons) Chartered Manager and BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions.
How do they work?
Incorporating an undergraduate degree within apprenticeship standards, the programme combines practical workplace experience with study. The flexible scheme sees apprentices spending around one day a week at University or training online. Lasting between two and four years, DAs will either be employees of a company or recruited directly by them onto the scheme.
What are the benefits for business?
Businesses are eligible for up to two thirds Government funding towards the cost of the education - providing employers with a unique opportunity to attract and develop their workforce.
With a compelling package of work and study, the scheme welcomes talented would-be apprentices, offering them the skills and knowledge to be a successful future employee.
Fill higher level staff skills gaps by supporting and investing in existing employees to build their knowledge.
Businesses are able to develop a collaborative working partnership with the University of Plymouth to design suitable work-based apprenticeship projects.
What are the benefits for students?
DAs are paid for by employers with Government support and can be studied part time. Open to people of any age, apprentices complete a core curriculum through work and study, giving them the flexibility that they need whilst still being on the payroll.
